2023 Japan Tour
MVBT Sangha Members,
We are working with Nippon Travel Agency (NTA) to organize the tour to Japan in 2023 to attend:
- The Joint Celebration of the 850th Anniversary of Shinran Shonin’s Birth and the 800th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Jodo Shinshu Teaching
- The 17th World Buddhist Women’s Convention (WBWC)
The dates for the tour are May 8, 2023 to May 21, 2023.
The tour is filled.
Attendees MUST be Mountain View Buddhist Temple members and COVID-19 vaccinated.

- check passport expiration dates (it must be valid for 6 months after travel dates),
- save up, and
- start exercise/walking!

Nishi Hongwanji in Kyoto
This is where the Shinran Shonin and Jodo Shinshu Joint Celebration will take place.
It is the headquarters of Jodo Shinshu Buddhism and is the home temple of the Gomonshu (head priest).

Obama City
This is where Rev. Mukojima’s family’s home temple is located. It will be a special treat to visit this temple and meet Sensei’s family.
It is located north of Kyoto and you can see the Sea of Japan from this town.

Kanazawa
Kanazawa Castle (see picture below).
Kenrokuen (兼六園) Garden is classified as one of Japan’s “three most beautiful landscape gardens” (see pictures to the left).
The Higashi Chaya District is a well-preserved geisha district with quite a few old buildings that have been refurbished into restaurants, cafes, and souvenir shops (see picture below).
